Planter box waterproofing is crucial in both residential and commercial construction, as these areas are highly susceptible to leaks, root intrusion, and structural deterioration over time. While aesthetics and landscaping are important, the underlying waterproofing system is what ensures long-term integrity and performance. The most important aspect of any planter box waterproofing is using the right membrane—one that can accommodate building movement and resist aggressive root systems.
Buildings naturally shift and settle, and these movements can easily compromise inferior waterproofing systems. Additionally, plant roots often seek out moisture, exerting pressure that can puncture or tear weak membranes. This is where most failures occur, leading to leaks, internal damage, and expensive repairs.
To prevent this, we selected and installed a 2mm thick Fatra PVC membrane system, known for its superior flexibility, root resistance, and long service life. Our installation process included detailed surface preparation, edge detailing, and seam welding to ensure a completely sealed environment. After application, the entire area was subjected to a 48-hour flood test to verify the membrane’s effectiveness and ensure that the waterproofing system would withstand long-term exposure to moisture and root pressure.
This robust approach delivers peace of mind for the client and ensures that the planter boxes remain both beautiful and structurally sound for years to come.
