This project involved the complete remediation of failed waterproofing systems on residential balconies at Bondi Beach that had been in place for over 20 years. Over time, exposure to harsh coastal conditions and natural building movement had compromised the integrity of the original membrane, leading to persistent water ingress and visible damage.
Our team began by meticulously removing all deteriorated waterproofing layers and inspecting the underlying substrate. Any damaged areas were repaired and prepared to receive the new system. We then installed the Ardex WPM1000 sheet membrane, selected for its high performance and proven track record in remedial applications.
To improve the thermal performance of the balconies and support energy efficiency, a 60mm insulation board was installed over the membrane. This was followed by a second layer of WPM1000, ensuring complete encapsulation and added durability. All seams and junctions were heat-welded and reinforced with precision.
To validate the installation’s reliability, the entire system was mechanically probed and subjected to a 48-hour flood test, which it passed without any issues. The result was a fully restored, watertight balcony surface that not only resolves past issues but enhances the building’s performance for years to come.
